Frequently Asked Questions about Tesa Adhesive Tape
Common questions about die-cutting and material selection for this product
What's the difference between 3M 467MP and 468MP die-cutting?
467MP is approx. 0.05mm thick, 468MP approx. 0.13mm. The ultra-thin 467MP tends to curl and stretch during die-cutting, requiring precision equipment with tension control. The slightly thicker 468MP is easier to strip waste from. Their release liners differ, so waste removal angle and speed need separate tuning.
How to prevent adhesive oozing after 3M tape die-cutting?
Adhesive oozing is usually caused by dull tooling or improper waste removal direction. Solutions: use sharp dies (etching dies recommended), adjust pressure to just cut through the adhesive without damaging the liner, use a lower-release liner, and control waste removal speed and angle (45-60 degrees recommended).
Why does VHB foam tape expand after die-cutting?
VHB foam has compression recovery properties, causing 0.1-0.3mm dimensional rebound after die-cutting. Solutions: compensate by making die clearance 0.05-0.1mm smaller than tape thickness, and let parts rest 24 hours before measuring to meet design tolerances.
What parameters are needed for 3M tape die-cutting quotes?
Please provide: 3M model number (e.g., VHB 5952, 467MP), substrate thickness, adhesive type (acrylic/modified acrylic), liner type (paper/film), product drawing with tolerances, estimated quantity, and application. The more complete the information, the faster the quote and prototyping.
